A close friend asked 'Where are you living during all this construction?'
Since this phase of construction was not directly affecting our bedroom wing of the house, we decided to adapt a few things and just live on site during the construction time.
Here's an idea of what the bedroom wing housed before construction:
Fortunately, we renovated our hall bathroom BEFORE all the other craziness began, so moving the Master Bathroom daily use to that bathroom was an easy decision.
Here's a list of what we adapted:
FIRST - the electricians reran our needed wiring under the house in the crawl space to insure full electricity and HEAT - Hallelujah! in the bedroom wing!
1. Move Master Bath daily use to Hall Bathroom
2. Move all furniture from living areas under construction into Bedroom 3. We disassembled the beds from Bedrooms 2 and 3, then began the stacking!
3. Bedroom 2 became our Temporary Den. Surprisingly, it holds a sofa, 2 chairs, TV, round coffee table, another side table and get this - the FRIG! CRAZY!
4. The Master Bathroom is now our Mini-Kitchen. We brought in a shelf unit, a skinny table and another table. Here's what we've got available in our Mini-Kitchen:
Microwave - on table near window
Electric hot pot - on table near window
Toaster Oven - on shelf unit
Instant Pot - stored until needed
French Press and pour-over coffee supplies
Basic dishwashing supplies, including a bucket to wash things in (think camping!) and dish drainers I grabbed at Dollar Tree. All this is set up between the 2 sinks on the extra long vanity.
We've got some basic food items, fruit, spices and the like, but honestly, we are finding that eating out a quick, healthy dinner is easier and refreshing to get away from the crazy at night.
Here's an idea of how we live behind the locked door at the construction site:
So, the blue tent. Why?
When the contractors pulled apart the middle roof line, we needed to lose a bit of roof over the bedroom wing. While we are waiting for the new walls and roof to go up - we have the tent to protect us from the elements (sorta)!
Anyone who has visited us up here on the brow knows that we have wind - gusty wind - almost weekly. Add that to the lovely blue tent and you have whipping tent sounds all.the.time. Yep! It's hard to sleep, but we're just turning up the fan noise and trying to get as much sleep as we can at night. I'll try to post a recording of the sound!
More updates to come! The next few weeks you will see the big transformation!
